How the Drywall Cost Ranges Are Set
Last reviewed 2026-10-01.
Where the numbers come from
The ranges come from contractor price pages published for Toronto and Ontario, read on October 1, 2026. We found no published Ottawa drywall price from a page we could accept, and no government or statistical source for drywall prices. So the ranges are labelled for what they are: not Ottawa prices, and not a quote.
When a range is shown
- Only when at least two independent sources agree on the same unit (per patch, per crack, per square foot).
- Pages that share copied text count as one source.
- A page whose date is later than the day it was read is not used.
- The range runs from the lowest to the highest of the agreeing sources, rounded to a plain figure.
The ranges in use
| Page | Range |
|---|---|
| Drywall patches | $150 to $600 per small patch |
| Crack repair | $150 to $900 per crack |
| New drywall | $1.50 to $4.50 per sq ft of board |
| Textured ceilings | $2 to $10 per sq ft of ceiling |
The textured-ceiling range is for a ceiling that has tested clear. Asbestos testing and removal are priced by abatement contractors, and this site shows no price for them.
Why some jobs show no range
- Water-damaged drywall: The sources we found price this work in different units (per sheet, per job), so no range is shown. Compare itemized quotes instead.
- Ceiling repair: We found only one published source for ceiling repair prices, so no range is shown. Compare itemized quotes instead.
Larger holes, Type X board, moisture-resistant board and whole-room prices are also left out: their published figures were too wide, came from one source, or did not agree on a unit.
How the estimators use them
Each estimator multiplies a range by the number you enter: the count of patches or cracks, the board area of a room, or the area of a ceiling. The result is always a range. Separate jobs are never added together, and doors and windows are not taken off a room's wall area. A contractor's quote may differ for reasons this page cannot see, so ask for one in writing.
